Elite Tennis Player Development, Led by Rafael Font de Mora

For thirty years, Rafael has built proven development plans that carry players from their first junior years to champion level — dozens of them. His method begins with a rigorous assessment and turns it into a highly personalized progression plan, then goes further: objectives, follow-up, reports and reviews all run on advanced technology, so no part of a player's development is left to memory or guesswork. It is the system every player here trains on. Backed by a coaching team with WTA and ATP experience, Rafael takes only the most committed players — and gives them the environment to train like professionals.

The Training Week

Six days on court, one full rest day, in a deliberate sequence. The complete week, day by day, is on the Full Board Elite page.

Access to Tennis Europe, ITF, Challengers and WTA/ATP tournaments

Salim competing at an ITF junior tournament

The corridor running from Alicante through Valencia to Barcelona is one of the most active competition regions in European tennis. ITF junior events, ATP and WTA Challengers and national competitions are reachable by road, year-round for our players.

Proximity to tournaments is not a convenience here. It is development infrastructure.

Regular ITF Junior Competition

Plan and travel with one of our specialized head coaches in competition.

Exposure to Professional Competition

ATP and WTA Challengers run in the same corridor.

A Dense Coaching Ecosystem

Several established academies operate in the region, so sparring regularly brings in players trained in other systems and other styles.

International Access

Barcelona and Valencia airports are both within reach, and the academy is accessible in a single journey from most major cities.

Academic Partnership

Elite Tennis and an International Education, in the Same Area

iTUSA has joined the educational ecosystem of Socrates Educa International School (SEIS), on Campus SEIS. The partnership exists for one reason: a player training six days a week still needs a real academic pathway — not a compromise between the two. Time for schoolwork is reserved in the weekly structure, so it never competes with training for the same hours.

SEIS already supports student-athletes across football, sailing, golf and other disciplines, with a university guidance system aligned with the destinations our players are already reaching — we have supported players all the way to NCAA Division I, several of whom still return to train at the academy.

International curriculum

Full-time academic study delivered alongside the training week, not squeezed around it.

University guidance

A dedicated pathway toward more than 150 university destinations worldwide.

One campus community

A multicultural student body of young athletes across several sports, sharing the same residence options.

Destinations the guidance system is built around
Harvard · Stanford · MIT · Cambridge · Oxford · Imperial College London · University of Warwick · Rotterdam School of Management — and 150+ others.

Tennis Academy Accommodation, Minutes from the Courts

A range of accommodation surrounds the academy, from beachfront resorts to family-run hotels — all within ten minutes of the courts. Limited accommodation is also available at the training facility itself, based on length of stay and availability. Options are discussed and matched to the player during the admission process rather than assigned.

On-site rooms at the academy are available in limited numbers, based on length of stay and availability — ask when you request your evaluation. Full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is 200€ per week; half board 150€; a single meal 75€.

Nutrition

Fresh Mediterranean produce and reliable local kitchens are part of daily life here. Players are guided toward professional eating habits progressively, across the season, instead of handed a prescribed meal plan on arrival.

Recovery and Decompression

The coastline is minutes away: beaches, coastal walks, open air. Mental decompression matters as much as physical recovery, and this environment provides it without it having to be scheduled.

Parent visits are encouraged and built into the family communication model as part of the normal rhythm, not treated as an exception to be requested.

Your First Week at the Academy in Tarragona

Assessment

The Head Coach and coaching team evaluate every technical, tactical and physical aspect of the player's game. The week produces a documented profile of where the player truly stands.

Objectives

Priorities become concrete targets. A correction plan is set with documented objectives, visible to the player and the parents in the iTUSA app from day one.

Training & intensity evaluation

The player runs the real development load. Intensity, response and physical baseline are measured, not assumed, and the plan is calibrated to what the week reveals.

Reports

Assessment summary, session notes and objectives are documented and shared with the family — the development loop parents can actually see and follow.

Does iTUSA Tennis Academy Fit Your Player?

Full board places are limited, and allocated through a selection process built to establish one thing: that the player entering is ready for this, and that this environment is right for them.

FAQ

Yes, and we prefer it. Families who have seen a normal training day decide better than families who have read a page about one. A visit is arranged around the training schedule rather than around a presentation, so what you see is the ordinary week. Get in touch and we will find a date that works.
Hours are reserved in the weekly structure rather than left to the evenings, which is what makes the arrangement hold across a season. Players carry a real academic load here, and the schedule is built on the assumption that they will. Where the tournament calendar creates a conflict, the academic time is rescheduled, not cancelled.
We would rather establish that during the selection process than six months in, which is why the profile review and the family conversation are as direct as they are. If it becomes clear after arrival that the fit is wrong, we say so, we explain what we are seeing, and we help the family find the right next step — including a return to a remote arrangement with their original coach where that makes sense. Keeping a player in a program that is not working serves nobody.
Players are supervised throughout the day, not only on court. Residential life is organised and monitored by academy staff, with clear routines for meals, study, recovery and sleep, and a designated point of contact responsible for each player at all times.
Coaching is delivered in English and Spanish, with further languages available depending on the player and coach. We have already trained players who arrived speaking only Russian, and others speaking only Chinese.
We coordinate with our local sports-medicine and physiotherapy partners, manage injury and illness in line with the training plan, and keep parents informed of any issue and the steps being taken.
